It is important to stay cool on the job but it’s also important to stay dry. Some fabrics are hydrophilic, that means that they will absorb moisture. They will absorb it…and hold it. That means that you will have to carry all of the moisture around with you, which is not comfortable to the wearer. Some fabrics are hydrophobic, which means they repel water. This means that the fabric will block sweat from evaporating from your skin leaving you hot and uncomfortable in extreme environments.
At TenCate Protective Fabrics nothing comes before protection..but comfort runs a close second. That’s why we have used over 90 years of technical textile science to engineering fabrics with Coolderm™ Technology. Our fabrics tagged with Coolderm™ Technology are engineered with a unique fiber blend that feature both hydrophilic and hydrophobic fibers; one that pulls in the moisture and one that pushes it away. So, when the moisture is absorbed by the fabric, it spreads out rapidly and dries faster. Faster drying time means less weight to carry and better comfort for the wearer.
This is known as the “evaporative cooling effect” which encompasses our Coolderm™ Technology, exclusive at TenCate Protective Fabrics.
Sweat is the body’s response to heat and stress. As you sweat, you are helping your body release heat to maintain that optimal body temperature between 36.1-37.2 degrees Celsius. As sweat evaporates from the skin, it continues to help cool the body down by pulling away those water molecules storing extra heat your body is trying to get rid of. This continues to help cool the body and in fact you tend to experience a cooling effect, called the “evaporative cooling effect”
To help promote the evaporative cooling effect, our fabrics tagged with Coolderm Technology are engineered to maximize sweat absorption and quick drying properties to keep you cooler, drier, and therefore more comfortable. You can find Coolderm™ Technology in our Tecasafe® Plus, Defender® M, and the new Tecasafe® One fabric.
When the sweat occurs, the fabric pulls it away from the body and spreads it throughout the fabric to a wider area in order to dry faster.
As moisture evaporates in hotter climates, the body is cooled. In cold weather, the fabric dries to regulate body temperature.
No “break-in” period or extra laundering that could weaken the FR protection of treated fabrics. Coolderm Technology fabrics are soft and ready to wear.
Fabrics with TenCate Coolderm™ Technology do not include chemicals to irritate the skin.
